I was a police officer for 15 years, finishing as a Detective Inspector at Moss Side in Manchester. Really, Moss Side finished me!

My debut novel The Trail – a missing person enquiry set in Nepal – was published in 2020, and the sequel Cold Dawn in 2022. Both were longlisted for the Boardman Tasker award. Cold Summer concludes the Nepal Trilogy. Base Line is the fourth book in the DCI Castle series.

I live on a smallholding in the Peak District, which includes bees and an orchard.

I mentor developing writers, and I give 30-40 talks a year, across my interests of writing, the smallholding, and mountaineering.
