A novelist, literary consultant and creative writing lecturer based in Nottingham, James Aitcheson is the author of four historical novels, which have been published in the UK, the US, Germany and the Czech Republic.
His debut novel, Sworn Sword, was first published by Preface in 2011 and was followed by two sequels. His most recent novel, The Harrowing (Heron, 2016), was named by The Times as a Book of the Month. His work has also received praise from The Mail on Sunday and BBC History Magazine.
James received his PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Nottingham in 2021. He currently teaches Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Nottingham. His current areas of research include historical fiction in the twenty-first century, and early medieval astronomy.
As a literary consultant, James specialises in the development of academic writing skills, delivering workshops, masterclasses, writing retreats and mentoring and coaching services for academic clients including Midlands4Cities DTP, the University of Nottingham and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He also delivers creative writing workshops aimed at both adults and young people.
