I am a Japanese to English translator and freelance film writer specialising in East Asian cinema with a focus on classic Japanese cinema. My writing can be found at outlets such as BFI and Senses of Cinema, while I’ve also penned liner notes for Radiance, Arrow, Chameleon, and Umbrella Films.

I also work as a professional Japanese to English subtitler.

Selected projects include Chime (Kiyoshi Kurosawa, 2023) and UK blu-ray releases of 18 Years in Prison (Tai Kato, 1967), The Snow Woman (Tokuzo Tanaka, 1968), and A Story Written With Water (Kiju Yoshida, 1965).

Literary translation includes the short story Unnatural by Tetsuya Okada, published in the Kurodahan Press volume Vampiric: Tales of Blood and Roses from Japan. I am available for reader reports and samples and have a particular interest in genre and classic fiction.
