  • I am originally from Shetland but now reside in Aberdeen. I also lived in Glasgow for some years.
  • I hold a BA (Hons) 2:2 in English with Journalism and Creative Writing from the University of Strathclyde (2010), an MLitt with Distinction in Creative Writing from the University of Aberdeen (2017) and an MSc in Information and Library Studies from Robert Gordon University (2018).
  • In 2021 I was one of the winners of the Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award, in the Fiction and Narrative Non-Fiction category.
  • I have had short fiction and poetry published in a number of literary journals and magazines, including – but not limited to – Gutter, Northwords Now, Causeway, Silk & Smoke, Seaborne, Poetry Scotland and Eemis Stane. Many of these can be found at my Linktree
  • I write extensively in Shetland dialect – an insular form of Scots which also contains fragments of the long extinct Norn language – as well as in English. Thematically speaking, my writing focuses on many themes – my heritage as a Shetlander has proven prominent, but I have also written about mental health, loneliness, isolation, and more recently queer themes.
  • As of June 2023, I am represented by Andrew James of Frog Literary Agency – my first novel is currently on submission and I hope to have updates about that soon.
