Gary was a teacher for 20 years, writing and drawing for his own students. First published as a poet at 15 years old, it wasn’t until he agreed to illustrate a book, while still teaching, his students insisted he publish his own inspiring stories. They said he would be the best at visiting schools, with his energy and ability to connect with children – he is now doing his best to be that person, visiting schools across the country and making meaningful books with passion.

His first book ‘Think Big Playroom: Just Try’ was a success and became a book used to motivate adults, as well as children. His second book ‘Grey’ was a self-published illustrated poem that caught the attention of English curriculum writers and started ‘ThinkingBigger’. When ‘Think Big Playroom: Aim High’ was released, it led to aspirational thinking in more than the children it was written for. Now ThinkingBigger is a publishing company that will introduce many more names to the Society of Authors. His book ‘You Choose The Story’, created with the artist Natalia Tamara, also gained the attention of curriculum writers, for its use of neuroscience and metacognition as a subject and tool. With more books planned for 2025, his next title, ‘Percy, Vera, and the Proper Cornish Pasty’, with artist Ruthy Martin, promises to be his biggest yet. He can be found performing his poetry, songs and short stories in Portsmouth and London.
