Hi I’m Emily! I’m an author and illustrator living in the Northwest of England.

If you’d like to know more about me, here’s my story!

My background is actually in science, having studied Forensic Science at university, although this was never my true passion, creative subjects such as art and design technology were what I really enjoyed, but at that time I didn’t have the confidence to pursue them.

After meeting my husband and having our son, James, I decided to leave science and I enrolled in a part time design course in Manchester. It was the best decision I have ever made! It was obvious that this is what I should have done from day one of my career and what really helped me succeed in producing unique, creative ideas was my wealth of knowledge in an unusual combination of science, creativity and motherhood.

This new found confidence in myself led me to start writing children’s poems. James was around 3 at the time and he was constantly ill with a cold and a runny nose. To cheer him up I decided to write about a creature that would help him get rid of his sniffles. James thought the poem was hilarious and it was often read to him when he was under the weather.

After 6 years of trying for a second child, our daughter Violet was born and a year later along came our third child Gabriella! It was whilst I was on maternity leave with Violet and Gabriella that I thought back to my children’s poem, as they too now suffer with endless colds. I wondered if other parents, like me, would like to comfort their little ones by reading of a creature that helps take their children’s sniffles away? And so ‘Have you ever heard of a Snotgoblin?’ was born!
