I write fiction and journalism and publish two Substacks:
- How to govern [not like that], about political and corporate governance
- Don Nordberg (is/on) writing, reviews of novels, films, long-format television and how philosophy and fiction collide.
Born in Chicago, I’ve worked in newspapers and for a long time as a correspondent and editorial executive for Reuters, in Britain, Germany, Switzerland and the US. As a consultant, I’ve advised information businesses on strategy and then moved into academic life, teaching management, governance, and financial journalism, while reading fiction of all sorts, all the time.
My novel, The Fleetwood Half-Orphan Asylum, is out and another is in the works. Fleetwood is a family saga over three generations, a story of brotherhood, what caring means, of love and the absence thereof.
Now Emeritus Professor at Bournemouth University, my academic work is interdisciplinary, ranging across social sciences, literary studies and philosophy. I have written two PhDs – one in management studies (Liverpool), the other in creative writing (Exeter). Along the way, I’ve published two books on corporate governance, dozens of academic articles and chapters in edited volumes, and tons of journalism.
I also lend a hand with the Sturminster Newton Literary Festival in Dorset.
