- Writing? I’m in it for the fun. At the age of 67 I completed an unpublished novel inspired by too many moments, where I got to the end of a book and thought, “I could do better than that.”
- I also wanted to write an uplifting book. Having lived a life full of my own challenges i.e. I became a widower and single parent at forty-five, grew up in the thick of the troubles in Belfast, not some leafy suburb but right in the middle of the bullets, bombs and tear gas and I also endured the dating scene in middle age, I wanted to escape and to write a book involving a drama but within a positive framework.
- I really enjoyed drawing on my eclectic background where I was exposed to many different experiences as an uneducated shipyard steelworker, classically trained rock guitarist with a Master’s degree, and school teacher with forty years on the clock. That’s a tremendous amount of lived experiences to draw from.
- I confess I cannot leave my teaching behind and firmly believe a book can have a didactic aspect. I explore narcism in relationships, how to spot one and life after the living hell of being with one. I also explore deceit, can it ever be a force for good?
- I imagine I still have a lot to learn and I am committed to doing so. If any of the above appeals to publisher’s please drop me a line. In the mean time, enjoy this wonderful artform.
