Background

Clara-Læïla Laudette is a prize-winning poet, translator and journalist. After reading English at Oxford, she studied Arabic in Palestine. She’s worked mainly in media, most recently as foreign correspondent for Reuters in Madrid. Clara-Læïla writes in English, French, Spanish and Arabic and is pursuing a Creative Writing MA at Goldsmiths.

Awards, publications

She won Magma Poetry’s 2023/24 Judge’s Prize. Her poems were shortlisted for the 2023 Oxford Poetry Prize and longlisted for the 2023 National Poetry Competition and Mslexia’s Women’s Poetry prize. Her work is forthcoming in the Poetry Review and has appeared in Propel Magazine, Oxford Poetry, Pulp Poets Press, No Bindings, the Cherwell Review, and others.

Poetry, prose

She is working on two poetry pamphlets and a full-length collection. She has also begun prose projects: a novel set in Conakry during West Africa’s Ebola epidemic, and an experimental memoir.

Translation

Clara-Læïla is developing a portfolio of poetry translations, mainly from Spanish to English but including French and Arabic poems. She is available for translation work of literary, academic and commercial texts.
