Chip began storytelling professionally in 2007. He’s since performed in 11 countries across four continents, presented Traditional Tales for Oxford Reading Tree online, performed regularly at Glastonbury Festival, represented Roald Dahl on ITV, and earned a Guinness World Record for his participation in the World Storytelling Festival 2025. He has also written five theatre shows supported by Arts Council England and 22 children’s books (and counting!), as well as the educators’ handbook All the Better to Read You With:Stories & Lessons to Inspire Reading for Pleasure currently in the finals for this year’s Teach Primary Awards.

Chip is hugely passionate about encouraging reading for pleasure among young people. As well as being on the DfE’s preferred supplier list for teacher training on the subject, he is the founder of the ‘If You Enjoyed This’ campaign to help readers continue their reading adventures, and is one half of the Lit-Picking podcast with author Matt Killeen, which connects readers with authors.

But part of that passion includes helping great writing reach those readers – and that means supporting the writers! That’s why Chip is also the England Midlands Regional Adviser for the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, and on the committee for the SoA’s Children’s Writers & Illustrators Group.

It’s also why he’s an Associate Artist of the National Centre for Writing, from where he provides online mentoring services for writers keen to write for children, as well as those working on their memoirs. His developmental editing and book coaching services can also be sought directly.

Chip is also Chief Storyteller for Epic Tales, the only publisher in the UK to provide public speaking training for its authors and illustrators as standard.
