Chiara Salomoni is Italian and lives in London. She is a poet and translator. She is interested in literature and she is fond of poetry and of languages.
She graduated in Oriental Languages and Literature (specialising in Chinese studies) from Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, Italy.
Her translation of the short story Guan hui ji 观彗记 (I ricordi di quando osservai la cometa – My memories of observing the comet) from Chinese into Italian was included in her graduation thesis. The short story is written by Chi Zijian 迟字建, who she met in China in 2000.
Her writing is inspired by nature and by art; in fact, embroidery and nature photography are her lifelong passions, among others. She spends a lot of time in the heart of Kew Gardens in London where she constantly discovers the beautiful changing seasons.
She attended courses run by poets, Tammy Yoseloff, Jane Draycott and Pascale Petit at the Poetry School in London since 2009. Jane Draycott and Myra Schneider are now her Poetry Mentors.
She is a member of the Tideway Poets who regularly meet in London and online to have feedback about their own poetry since 2011.
She attended residential poetry courses in Spain and in the UK since 2014. And she attended the International Literary Translation and Creative Writing Summer School Multilingual Poetry Workshop run by Fiona Sampson, among others, at UEA in Norwich from 2015 until 2018.

Her poems in print were published twice in Acumen 102 and 107, in the PRS Review summer issue 2022 and 2023, in Poetry Salzburg Review N. 38 and in Orbis 205. Her poem ‘On the Street’ was among the twenty shortlisted in the Ghost Light poetry competition run by Norwich Theatre Royal in 2020.
Her translation of Silvio Ramat’s poem was given an Honorable Mention in the Stephen Spender Prize in 2014.
One of her translations of a poem by Andrea Zanzotto was published in Poem in 2018. Her translations of five poems by Zanzotto appear online in The High Window.(https://thehighwindowpress.com/2021/09/18/italian-3/)
Three poems by Corrado Govoni appear online on The Blue Nib and are included in the Translators Aloud YouTube channel, in the #seekingapublisher playlist. She is an associate member of the Society of Authors and she is a member of poetry pf and of Second Light.
