Charles Harris got into writing and directing at school when he found he could use it to get out of doing serious work. And has continued to avoid serious work ever since.
Starting in the film industry as a projectionist, he worked his way up from assistant editor to director, making a range of prize-winning films, from documentary to TV drama to cinema.
In the process, he co-founded the London Screenwriters’ Workshop – the first screenwriters workshop in the world. He was co-chair of the New Producers Alliance and is a member of BAFTA and Directors UK.
He writes literary crime novels with a political twist. His debut, the satire on tabloid journalism The Breaking of Liam Glass was #1 on Amazon’s Hot New Releases for Satire and nominated for the Eyelands and Wishing Shelf literary awards. Along with Room Fifteen, a psychological thriller, it has been an Amazon genre bestseller. He has also written two books on screenwriting and one on police slang.
He is currently on the SoA board of directors.
And in case of trouble from hecklers he’s a black belt in Aikido.
He believes in making connections, so do make contact if you have any questions, issues, want to share a good book you’ve read, or just want to say hi.
