Carolyn Boyd is an award-winning travel and food writer who specialises in France. She is the author of Amuse Bouche: How to Eat Your Way Around France (Profile Books), a charming and comprehensive guide to the foods from every corner of the country. As well as guiding readers to the best places to eat and ideas for cooking, serving and celebrating more than 200 of France’s myriad regional specialities, the book helps readers understand how each food tells a story about the history, culture, landscape and traditions of its place. Though lightly told through her friendly writing style, it is the result of nearly two decades’ writing about France and a deep knowledge of the country, its history, landscape, culture and language.
Her first book was France: From the Source (Lonely Planet, 2017), a recipe book in which France’s local chefs, cooks and bakers shared their secrets to some of France’s best-known dishes as well as recipes featuring local produce.
Carolyn was editor of internationally renowned France Magazine from 2006 to 2016. As a freelance writer, she is a regular contributor to The Guardian, The Times & Sunday Times, National Geographic Traveller and National Geographic Traveller Food, Delicious Magazine and several other publications. She also writes the regular France Traveller newsletter on Substack.
Carolyn is also the PR & Communications Manager for the Roux Scholarship, the UK’s most prestigious chef competition. Founded in 1984 by The Roux Brothers, Michel and Albert Roux, it has advanced the careers of countless British chefs in the UK and the world beyond.
Carolyn is a member of the Guild of Food Writers. She lives in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and travels to France and London frequently.
