Becka Spruce is an award-winning writer and artist from Staffordshire.

In 2025, she was selected from a pool of over 2,400 applicants to be an author in Penguin Random House’s award-winning WriteNow programme, gaining editorial mentorship from the company to develop a short story into a novel. WriteNow seeks out, nurtures and publishes emerging talent from underrepresented communities in the UK.

Elderwing, her debut, is an upmarket speculative thriller that follows a jaded biologist seeking silence on a decrepit spacecraft, using the absurd backdrop of space to explore human issues like loneliness, memory and addiction.

Becka is also a writer for video games and holds a Master’s degree in Creative Writing from Keele University. There, she won several awards and was published in the university’s writing anthology eight times. She has featured in Keele’s Alumni magazine and provided consultation to Stoke-on-Trent City Council, passionate about improving access to the arts in the area.
