My translation and writing focus on Azerbaijan, the Caucasus and Russia. I especially enjoy bringing Azerbaijani literature, and culture more broadly, to an English-speaking audience.

I’ve translated a range of work by Azerbaijani authors, including Banine’s ‘gloriously comic’ memoirs from the original French, Kamal Abdulla’s post-modern novels from Azerbaijani, and some of Chingiz Abdullayev’s thrillers from Russian.

With a background in translating and editing for BBC Monitoring in Moscow and Baku, I also write and translate books and articles on history, politics, the economy, the environment and sport.

I have collaborated on a variety of projects as an editor, proof-reader, translator or consultant, including academic books, anthologies, films and TV programmes.
