Anna Blasiak is a poet, writer, translator and managing editor of the European Literature Network. Anna writes poetry in Polish and in English. She has been shortlisted for several major poetry competitions in Poland. Her bilingual poetry and photography book (with Lisa Kalloo) Kawiarnia przy St James’s Wrena w porze lunchu / Café by Wren’s St-James-in-the-Fields, Lunchtime came out with Holland House Books in 2020. Her second bilingual poetry collection (with Lisa Kalloo’s photography), Deliverance / Rozpętanie, is out with Holland House Books in the UK and Dom Literatury SPP Łódź (2024). She has also published Lili. Lili Stern-Pohlmann in conversation in Anna Blasiak (Holland House Books, 2020). Her poetry has been anthologised (in Polish, English and Romanian) and translated also into Spanish, Slovenian and Turkish.
Anna has translated over 40 books from English into Polish and some fiction from Polish into English – by Mariusz Czubaj, Wioletta Grzegorzewska, Jan Krasnowolski, Kaja Malanowska, Daniel Odija, Mirka Szychowiak, Irit Amiel, Renia Spiegel and Maciej Hen (some as Anna Hyde). Her most recent book-length translations are Maciej Hen’s According to Her (published in 2022 by Holland House Books; shortlisted to the EBRD Literature Prize 2023), Aneta Kamińska’s Czernovitz-Charmovitz (Arc Publications, 2024, co-translation with Bohdan Piasecki) and Łucja Dudzińska’s Bez-Troska. Próby wyrazu / Mis-Concern. Attempts at Expression (Font, 2024). She has also translated into Polish poetry by Maria Jastrzębska, Mary O’Donnell, Nessa O’Mahony, Vesna Goldsworthy, Martina Evans, Elżbieta Wójcik-Leese, Tishani Doshi, Pascale Petit and many other poets; and, into English, by Mirka Szychowiak, Radosław Wiśniewski, Edward Pasewicz, Rafał Gawin, Joanna Fligiel, Robert Kania and Aneta Kamińska. In addition to her book-length translations, her work has been published in Best European Fiction 2015, Asymptote, The Guardian, B O D Y Literature, York Literary Review, ANMLY and Modern Poetry in Translation.
Anna has worked in museums and a radio station, run magazines, written on art, film and theatre. Today she manages the European Literature Network website and events and is the Design and Production Editor of The Riveter Magazine. She also regularly reviews books in translation for the European Literature Network, where she also runs a monthly poetry-in-translation column Poetry Travels as well as a blog on Polish literature The Polka.
