I am an award-winning children’s author of stories full of history, mystery and adventure.
BLACK POWDER, my debut novel about a boy caught up in the Gunpowder Plot, won the Historical Association’s Young Quills Award. Other titles include THE BURIED CROWN, a wartime adventure with a twist of Anglo-Saxon myth and magic, THE QUEEN’S FOOL, a tale of treachery and treason set at the court of King Henry VIII and VITA AND THE GLADIATOR, the story of a young girl’s fight for justice in the high-stakes world of London’s gladiatorial arena.
My latest book, REBEL HEART, set during the tumultuous English Civil Wars and featuring brave Royalist heroine, Merriweather Pryce was published in March 2025.
I love going into schools and libraries to enthuse young people about reading, creative writing and using their imaginations to do a spot of their own time-travelling. As an extension of this, I’m a founding member of The Time Tunnellers, an initiative which aims to promote the reading and enjoyment of historical fiction by young readers through the provision of free-to-access weekly short videos and creative writing resources.
I hold an MA in Writing for Children (with distinction) and am also the proud recipient of an Honorary Fellowship from the Historical Association in recognition of ‘a significant contribution to the promotion and knowledge of history.’
I also have experience in leading workshops for adults in university, library and museum settings and in one-to-one mentoring over an extended period.
I live in Surrey with my husband and a garden full of assorted wildlife just down the road from a castle and a medieval abbey.
