I write short stories and longer fiction. My debut short story collection, The Truth Has Arms and Legs, was published by Fly On The Wall Press in July 2023.
My writing has won awards, including the Historical Writers’ Association short story prize in 2020 and the Wells Festival of Literature short story prize in 2021. I’ve also been shortlisted for the Harper’s Bazaar short story prize and Bournemouth Writing Prize, among others.
My historical novel, nearing completion, explores identity, love and buried secrets in Victorian provincial England. Early chapters were longlisted for the Stylist Feminist Fiction Prize.
I’m inspired by human nature, in all its frailties and flaws, as well as history, landscape and the natural world.
I have a degree in Human Sciences from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and worked as a print journalist until 2006. I’m passionate about environmental issues and love walking in the Surrey Hills, close to where I live with my husband and teenage sons.
