I am an author (poetry and fiction) and a translator. I was born in Mexico but came to live in London in 1999, drawn by the city’s literary past. I have published four novels, two books of short stories and seven books of poetry, most of them in Mexico. My first poetry pamphlet published in the UK is Flint (Contraband Books, 2022). My latest novel, Ciudad doliente de Dios (Doleful City of God), published in 2018 by Alfaguara/UNAM, is inspired by William Blake’s Prophetic Poems, Blake being of course one of the guiding spirits in my London journey.

I have also written for the stage: the script for a cabaret show, for two music-theatre shows (but not musicals!) and an opera libretto, and many, many years ago, for TV. I wrote the lyrics of several songs for Mexican rock band Santa Sabina.

I have also published several translations. My translations of George Eliot’s The Lifted Veil and Walter de la Mare’s Seaton’s Aunt were published by the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 2020 and 2023 respectively.

I am currently working on a new novel (in English and in Spanish simultaneously), with the support of Mexico’s Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte.
