Sheffield Group first meet-up

14 June @ 14:00 - 16:00 BST

Free

Join the Sheffield Group on Saturday 14 June from 2pm for their first meet-up at Sheffield Peace Gardens, Pinstone Street, Sheffield, S1 2HH.

Come along and bring snacks, your favourite writing pens and notebook (if you want to write) and maybe a blanket or chair to sit on.  We can use our creative time to write, be inspired by our surroundings, play around with words, talk (or not, whichever would be most comfortable for you) and maybe play a few games of fridge poetry (if I can make the cards in time).

If the weather is poor, we can use the Winter Gardens next door, and if we would like, we can go for food or a drink afterwards.

About the organiser and accessibility info

Hello! I’m Suzanne and my pronouns are she/her.  I’m a neurodiverse LGBT+ author, and I’m the new organiser for Sheffield SoA. This is what I look like:

How do I find you?
My wife Kate and I will be at the stainless steel balls (Rain, by Colin Rose) which are located between the Peace Gardens and the Winter Gardens at 2pm.  At around 2.10pm we will move into the Peace Gardens and find a space to settle.  If you’re not sure if it’s us, We will be bringing Tweedy the elephant with us:

Accessibility: An especial welcome to those managing a disability, or who are neurodiverse. I hope the following helps you in making a decision about attending.

  • The nearest bus stop is about 150m away from the site.  The nearest rail station is the Sheffield Rail Station.  The nearest tram stop is the Cathederal.
The nearest parking is the Q-Park at Charles Street.
  • You can access the Peace Gardens through a flat walkway, stairs or a shallow ramp. The surfaces are smooth sandstone slabs or tarmac, and walkways are wide enough for wheelchairs or mobility aids. The stairs are wide and have metal handrails, but don’t have marked edges.
  • The site may have a large number of people, especially if it’s good weather.
  • There are water fountains (The Holberry Cascades) on the site, which can be a regular noise if you are near them, there’s also the Goodwin Fountain which can work irregularly. You may be able to smell the saline solution that is used to help clean the fountains.
  • There is the council building at the side of the gardens, which has a striking clock. There is no hearing loop on site.
  • Assistance dogs are allowed in the Peace Gardens.
  • The nearest public loos including accessible are listed as temporary ones near Browns Resturant. There are also loos in the Millenium Gallery, which is a short distance away. There’s more info here: Toilet town | Help Sheffield
  • You can take a break or leave whenever you want.  The event is an informal social, so you are free to come and go as it helps you best.

All members welcome!
