How to Craft a Non-Fiction Proposal – Authors with Disability and Chronic Illnesses Network Meeting

Join us for our next online meet-up on Thursday 23 January from 2pm.
Caro Clarke will discuss:
– What is a proposal?
– Advice on each section of a proposal
– Advice on structure
– Research / permissions / legal reads
When registering for this event, please include a brief description of what kind of non-fiction you write. For example:
- Memoir / narrative non-fiction / travel / food writing (no images)
- Serious non-fiction (science, psychology, history, philosophy)
- Cookbooks / art books (heavily illustrated)
- Self help, practical books, craft etc.
Caro Clarke is the founder and literary agent at Portobello Literary. They founded the agency in 2022 after twelve years working in publishing houses – Transworld (PRH) and Canongate Books as a Senior Rights Manager. They were named Rights Professional of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2021 and a Bookseller Rising Star in 2024. In 2019, they co-founded the Nan Shepherd Prize for underrepresented nature writers. They’ve also recently started a Substack for the agency to demystify the industry and give craft advice.

The Authors with Disabilities and Chronic Illnesses network is a member-led peer support network aims to break feelings of isolation by connecting authors facing common experiences, in an online community that offers continuing professional and personal support.
We run monthly get-togethers using Zoom, where you can chat informally online with others. Depending on your computer or device, you can take part either using audio or video. Please let us know if you have any specific needs that will help you take part.
