Glasgow Group: Joking Aside
11 June @ 19:00 - 20:00 BST

Join the Glasgow Group on Wednesday 11 June at 7pm for their next online meeting to hear from John McGlade on his career and joke writing process.
John McGlade writes novels, plays, television and radio scripts, poems, sitcoms and political satire; but above all, he writes jokes.
In this talk, he traces his development from the beginning of his career writing one-line gags and short sketches for television and radio to his later branching out into poetry and longer forms such as stage drama and the novel.Â
Within this look at his development as a writer, he traces the need for structure in writing and how the essential building blocks of the joke can be found at the heart of all forms.
Referring to his own work as well as well as the work of others, and using clips from popular TV shows, John outlines how he became a television writer known for his prolific output as a gag writer, and retraces his steps through sitcoms, plays, political and cultural satire and full-length novels.
