DBS guide for members
If you would like the SoA to initiate a DBS check for work you are doing with children or young people, please download the form, read the instructions to ensure you are eligible to apply for a check. You can edit it by using the Fill and Sign features in Adobe Reader.
Please return completed forms to membership@societyofauthors.org We will add them to the DBS system as soon as possible (but please allow 4-5 working days) and then you will receive an email from Certn with instructions for you to upload documents to establish your identity. This is usually your passport, driving licence and a utility bill, not more than three months old with the same address as your driving licence.
Please make a note of the date you supplied Certn with your identity check documents: some elements of the DBS process are time-sensitive. You have 28 days to request to be added to the Update Service (there is a small annual charge, but you don't need to keep applying for new DBS certificates - you can supply a code to those who need to access your DBS certificate). Usually information about this service will be sent with your certificate directly from DBS - you will need your certificate number to apply. Also, if your certificate doesn't arrive, you have 90 days from the date of application to request a reprint or else you will need to complete the process again. The SoA can check on the progress of your application if you need confirmation of its progress. Please contact us for more information.
