Join our growing local network

Our local groups have provided a well-needed source of support and connection over the course of the pandemic. Why not start 2022 by joining your own?

A third of SoA members now have a group in their area, as more members have set up new local groups over the past year.

'During the pandemic many of us, particularly those living alone, have found the group a lifeline to share experiences and how the pandemic has impacted our work and writing process.'

- Simon Michael, Manchester Group

What happens at a local group?spots-3.jpg

Our local groups are run by members for members. They are a chance to connect with local members through informal socials, topic-lead talks, workshops and more. Share your knowledge and advice with fellow authors and support one another.

With a whole host of local events happening in January to kick off the New Year, this is great time to get involved in a group near you.

If there isn’t a group in your area, we can help you set one up. From gauging interest from local members, to putting you in touch with other group organisers, we’re here to support you.

"The support from The Society of Authors is great, a patient source of advice and encouragement and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to set up and run a group."

– Suzanne Harris, Somerset Group

In January we’ll be running a couple of informal sessions for anyone who wants to find out more about local groups.

Francesca Howell, Head of Author Communities, will run through how the SoA will support you to get up and running, talk through ideas for your new group and answer your questions.

For more information or to let us know where you'd like to set up a group, email localgroups@societyofauthors.org
