How would you improve copyright and piracy claims?

The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) wants to hear from you to try to improve its systems – and your responses will help us in lobbying for change.

Have you experienced piracy or had your IP rights infringed? Or has anyone made a claim against you? What difficulties have you encountered in enforcing your rights? Do you know what to do? What could be done better?

If you have been involved in an infringement case, what was your experience of the process? How aware are you of the IPEC Small Claims Track as an available route to pursue claims? Would you like the option of a range of fixed payment amounts (statutory damages) for infringements instead of having to prove damage?

The IPO wants to hear from all types of writers, illustrators and literary translators to help improve its copyright protection regime for fellow creators. To have your say, follow this link and scroll down to ‘Complete a response form’ to download and fill in the questionnaire. Email your answers to enforcement@ipo.gov.uk by Monday 2 November 2020 – and please send a copy of your response to us at publicaffairs@societyofauthors.org to help inform our lobbying.
