This year’s TA First Translation Prize – recognising debut literary translations into English – has opened for entries.

The TA First Translation Prize is for a debut literary translation into English published in the UK. The Prize was established in 2017 and generously endowed by Daniel Hahn, with support from the British Council.

Of the prize, Daniel Hahn writes:

"The first two winners of the TA First Translation Prize, and the shortlists from which they were selected, were a powerful confirmation of the great talent that's coming into the translation profession these days, and the work being done to bring these talented translators (and their authors) to the page. I can't wait to see what the year three submissions hold!"

The 2018 TA First Translation Prize, for translations published between April 2017 and March 2018, went to Janet Hong for her translation of The Impossible Fairytale by Han Yujoo, edited by Ethan Nosowsky (Tilted Axis Press).

The deadline for entries is Thursday 15 August 2019. The Prize will be awarded at our Translation Prizes ceremony in February 2020.
