About our public liability insurance

Our Membership PLUS offer includes £10 million in public liability insurance, designed for authors who perform, visit schools, run workshops, or take part in other public-facing work.

Public liability insurance for eligible members of The Society of Authors is arranged by Howden Insurance Brokers Limited trading as Hencilla Canworth, a specialist insurance intermediary for the creative sector, and underwritten by Hiscox Insurance Company Ltd. The policy provides £10,000,000 of Public liability insurance for its qualifying members.

Please note: Your PLI cover runs in line with your membership year so if you are due to renew your membership on the first of next month or soon thereafter, please contact us before upgrading, either via email at membership@societyofauthors.org or calling our membership team on 020 3880 2230.

Personal service companies

In addition to covering freelance members, the policy can also cover the ‘personal service company’ of an insured member. This means that you still still be covered if you operate through a limited company where you are the sole director and employee, with the exception of another family member undertaking clerical and administrative duties only.
