I have been a member of the Monmouth Group of SoA Cymru since the group was formed and have been joint coordinator of the group for the last couple of years. I am 73 years old and retired as a science teacher some sixteen years ago. I was also an author of educational materials for various publishers including NelsonThornes, Pearson and Collins for nearly 30 years. Since retiring I have devoted my time to fiction, particularly SF & fantasy. I have had eight novels published by small independent presses and also self-published a series of five crime novels. I live in Monmouth with my wife. I am non-binary (I am not bothered about pronouns but prepared to stand up for the rights of members of all minority groups).
I grew up in Cardiff but spent my teaching career in England. I am not a fluent Cymraeg speaker (I have an O level and attended a course prior to Covid) but support the use of the language and the promotion of Cymraeg culture, history and identity. SoA Cymru has an important role in supporting authors in Cymru because of devolution and more widely as part of the SoA family. I would like to see the SoA Cymru committee continue to support the local groups while also providing in-person and on-line events for all the membership.
