I am an experimental mixed-media artist interested in unconventional forms of storytelling. My work combines writing with photography, video, digital media, and other forms, bringing together concepts, methodologies, and traditions that are not often placed in conversation.

Research

I specialise in contemporary post-apocalyptic fiction (and, to a lesser extent, dystopian narratives), alongside interpretations of the Gothic, monstrosity, place, and personhood. I am interested in how the collapse of familiar structures destabilises accepted ideas about what it means to be human, particularly our assumptions about identity, morality, and monstrosity.

Current work

My current creative and research work falls across three interconnected strands:

Monstrosity, Gothic, and culture

  • Developing the Monster/Unmonster as a relational approach to monstrosity and the construction of the Other.
  • Exploring queerness in contemporary Gothic and horror.
  • Examining the persistence and transformation of folkloric figures and concepts, such as the trickster, in contemporary popular culture.

Experimental storytelling

  • Developing Swamp Noir, bringing Southern Gothic and Nordic Noir into conversation with eco-criticism, the uncanny, and theories of monstrosity.
  • Experimenting with hidden artefacts, fragmented narratives, and mixed media to create stories that are discovered and experienced rather than simply read.
  • Documenting and examining the process of writing and creating as part of the creative work itself.

AI, creativity, and autonomy

  • Experimenting with AI as a creative collaborator and object of study.
  • Exploring questions of creativity, autonomy, authorship, personhood, and influence within human-AI interaction.
