Richard Gerald Phillips turned to a full-time writing in 2020 following a distinguished 52-year career in law enforcement and international corporate security. Though born in Devon, England, he spent the majority of his life in South Africa, a landscape that deeply informs his work.
Known for his exceptional energy and an unwavering passion for every venture he undertakes, Richard spent the final three decades of his corporate career specializing in high-risk logistics and security management within the cash-in-transit industry. In 2006, he co-founded a pioneering automated retail cash management service, serving as Joint Chief Executive Officer and spearheading its evolution into a highly successful, market-leading financial technology business before retiring in 2020.
An ardent adventurer, Richard spent decades exploring the vast expanses of Southern Africa; from the Cunene River to Cape Agulhas, and the Fish River Canyon to Mozambique, alongside his late soulmate and beloved wife, “Ann of Africa.” Throughout their travels, he captured their fascinating encounters on his website, Tales of the Bushman.
A respected industry voice, Richard has authored numerous professional papers on security, risk management, and wildlife encounters. Since retiring, he has channelled his extensive, real-
world expertise into fiction and satirical commentary. He is the author of two organized crime thrillers, as well as Tails from the Bushveld, a vibrant collection of humorous anecdotes and wilderness adventures.
