How I write – in conversation with Ruth Millington

Grab a cuppa and get to know author Ruth Millington, joint winner of the ALCS Educational Writers’ Award. Ruth will be in conversation with fellow author (TBC) to discuss her work and career and to offer a glimpse into her creative routines.
This event is in conjunction with the SoA’s Educational Writers Group.

Our #SoAatHome How I Write in conversation events will be free for all but with a donation option when registering for the event. All donations made go towards the Society of Authors’ Access Fund. The fund is to help provide authors with support for travel, subsistence, childcare or access needs for events, residencies, and retreats. - Welcome, introductions and housekeeping (3 mins)
- Ruth Millington, and a glimpse into her creative routine (15-20 mins)
- Ruth will do a short visual reading from her latest book, This Book Will Make You An Artist (illustrated by Ellen Surrey) (2-3 mins)
- Q&A with audience (10-15 mins)
- Summary and closing comments (2 mins)

Educational Writers Group (EWG) is a professional network for SoA members who produce educational materials for all settings including schools, higher education and academic institutions, and the English Language Teaching sector. The Line-up
Ruth Millington
Ruth Millington is an art historian, curator, broadcaster and author, specialising in modern and contemporary art. Her first book MUSE (Vintage) uncovers the inspiring real-life stories of figures in famous portraits, while This Book Will Make You An Artist (Nosy Crow) encourages younger readers to be creative by taking inspiration from the world’s greatest masterpieces. She has presented several documentaries, including ‘Painting with Scissors’ for BBC Radio 4, which tells the overlooked yet radical story of collage art. Ruth believes that anyone can be an artist, no matter where they come from.
