HELLO!

I’m a writer and television producer/director who has written extensively about espionage, resistance, and the Second World War. I am also an experienced ghostwriter.

My new book, ‘The Nazi Ghost Train’, which tells a remarkable story of resistance and betrayal from 1944, comes out in the UK and the US in spring 2026.

I currently have two scripts with film producers, one of which is due to go into production next year.

PREVIOUS WORK

My previous book, ‘Defying Hitler’ (written with my late friend Gordon Thomas) was published by Penguin Random House and was a top-five pick in both USA Today and the New York Post. It was described by New York Times bestselling author Alex Kershaw as a “terrifying and timely account of resistance in the face of the greatest of evils”. Another book about WW2 women agents, ‘Shadow Warriors’, has been published in five countries and was optioned for a film/mini-series.

I’ve ghostwritten a number of autobiographies, often helping people who have overcome immense challenges to tell their story. I was honoured to work with Gaynor Madgwick on her very emotional book, ‘Aberfan: A Story of Survival, Love and Community in One of Britain’s Worst Disasters’, which has been optioned for a television drama.

I also believe in the importance of children and young people reading about real-life heroes, struggles, and role models, and have written a number of non-fiction books for readers aged 9 to 14.

MAKING TELEVISION

Much of my work for television is in the true crime genre, including the series Cold Case Forensics (ITV) and Steeltown Murders: Hunting a Serial Killer (BBC). My programmes have won a number of awards, including two New York Festival Gold Medals and a BAFTA Cymru.

As a journalist I have contributed to many national and international newspapers including The Times, The Observer, The Wall Street Journal, Military History and the investigative pages of Private Eye.

OTHER STUFF

I am a keen oral historian, having recorded a large number of interviews with war veterans and people from the world of cinema and television.

When I’m not writing, I am reading, watching films with my family, or – weather permitting – watching cricket at Glamorgan, where I am also a volunteer with the Museum of Welsh Cricket.

I’m a long-time member of the Society of Authors and the NUJ, and am represented by Andrew Lownie.
