I am an award-winning writer of over 40 books for children and young adults, thrice-nominated for the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Writing.
My YA dystopian book, Electric Life won the 2025 Bristol Teen Prize, the Iris Award and the Hampshire Awards, and the sequel, Surge, has just been published.
Although my catalogue of work has walked in wobbly lines between young fiction, surreal comedy (Mort the Meek) and dystopian futures (Day of the Whale, Electric Life) there is common endeavour throughout: that is to explore human nature and sense of self in connection with environment, family and friendships.
2026 will see the release of two new projects. The Emptying – an AI teen thriller written with Mimi Thebo – is my first experience collaborating on a novel. The Starlight Highway, coming in July, is an older middlegrade that addresses the obsession (of some) with leaving Earth for space; it very much keeps its feet on the ground.
