Josephine Murray’s published translations include a series of three children’s illustrated non-fiction books by Manon Bucciarelli for Harper Collins; Nature, Cities, and Myths (forthcoming in 2026), and Suffusion, Anne-Sophie Pic’s food memoir/manifesto with recipes for Hachette Pratique.
A Cordon Bleu qualified cook with professional cookery experience, she has proof-read/edited the English translations of two cookery books for Hachette Pratique, and her food writing has been published in Waitrose & Partners Food magazine and Berkshire Life magazine.
As a journalist, she regularly writes about crafts and inspiring people for magazines The Simple Things, Embroidery and Pressing Matters. Her features about a wide range of subjects from food to careers, homes and gardens have been published in magazines Period House, Real, Health Plus, Women’s World (the Women’s Institute magazine) and Wiltshire Life, and The Guardian newspaper.
In 2024, she collaborated with photographer Carmel King to create Made in Gloucester, a book documenting ten different makers and manufacturers in Gloucester.
She has given many talks and webinars about food translation and literary translation to organisations including CIOL, GCHQ, Durham University and several schools.
Current projects include a biography of the literary translator Patricia Crampton and writing features for Embroidery magazine and LandScape magazine.
She is also Secretary and Communications Officer to PETRA-E Network for the training of literary translators.
