Mia Farlane is a novelist, writer of literary fiction and creative nonfiction.

Her first book (Viking/Penguin UK) is a tragicomedy (‘Seinfeld meets Dorothy Parker’ – Bidisha) set London & Paris.

Her next novel, lit-fic, dark humour, is set in London & Wellington / Aotearoa NZ – theme is changing the narrative and starting the conversation on suicide.

Mia worked for 11+ years at Southbank Centre’s National Poetry Library. She is a translator/contributor in No, Love Is Not Dead: An Anthology of Love Poetry from Around the World (Chambers 2021/2023).

Mia has also written creative nonfiction: ‘Are You Okay? (A Writing Event)’, published online in 2020 by UK literary magazine, Moxy.

Her stories ‘Like-Minded People’ (first prize in the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival 2022 – fiction category) and ‘Qiu Miaojin Is Still Alive’ (selected as one of the five winners of Radio New Zealand’s Nine To Noon Short Story competition 2024) are extracts from her UK-NZ / second novel.

Farlane has a First Class Honours Degree in French Language and Literature from Te Herenga Waka University (Victoria University), Wellington NZ, and an MA Writing from Middlesex University, London.
