C. E. McGill, or Charlie McGill (they/them) is a writer of historical fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, and — ideally — all three at once. Their debut novel, a spin-off of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein entitled Our Hideous Progeny, began as a thesis project for their degree “Interdisciplinary Studies: Narratives of Science in Fiction and History,” examining the interplay of scientific history and the genre of science fiction.

Our Hideous Progeny was shortlisted for the Publishing Triangle’s Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction, the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction, the Betty Trask Prize, and the Wilbur Smith Award for Adventure Fiction. McGill’s short fiction has appeared in Fantasy Magazine and Strange Constellations, and they have written articles for Publishers Weekly, Electric Literature, Writer’s Digest, and Literary Hub, among others.

McGill is open to a variety of paid engagements, including: fiction or non-fiction writing; editing; proofreading; speaking engagements and festival appearances; workshops and writing classes; and diversity/sensitivity reading (for nonbinary, agender, or sapphic characters).
