Writer of almost 30 books I now work predominately in historical fiction and creative non-fiction. My novel, The Fair Botanists, won Scottish Book of the Year 2022. My 9-part 1950s crime series, The Mirabelle Bevan Mysteries was shortlisted for the CWA’s Dagger in the Library. My remapping of Scotland according to women’s history won the David Hume Institute Prize in 2018. Regularly appear on BBC radio and have written 3 radio dramas, On Portobello Prom, Robert Burns: His Psychotherapy and Cure and I Love You, Mr DeMille. Enjoy public speaking especially about creative imagination and diverse readings of history.
