Hi! I’m Jules Scheele, a freelance illustrator, comics artist and live scribe based in Glasgow, Scotland. I specialise in graphic storytelling that translates and brings a human touch to difficult concepts, especially across academic and third sector projects.

My debut graphic novel, an adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s seminal gender-bending novel Orlando, was released in June 2026 through Avery Hill Publishing.

I am best known for my work with Dr. Meg-John Barker on ICON Book’s bestselling Graphic Guide trilogy, including Queer: A Graphic History, Gender: A Graphic Guide, and Sexuality: A Graphic Guide.

Additionally I illustrated American Politics: A Graphic Guide with Laura Locker, also through ICON Books, and have contributed illustrations to Bimini Bon Boulash’s A Drag Queen’s Guide To Life from Penguin Books.

I have a over a decade’s consistent experience as a live illustrator, creating murals and visualisations live at events like conferences or workshops (recent clients include the Scottish Government, the NHS, University College London, Edinburgh Arts Festival and the Glasgow School of Art).

My personal illustration work consists of comics, zines and prints; it’s heavily influenced by my interests in queer art, pop culture, camp, fashion illustration, alternative comics and manga, grassroots politics and DIY zine culture.

I am also available to lead workshops on zine and comics making!
