I learnt to write Pitman Shorthand in the 1970s and taught it in the 1980s after qualifying to teach in further education.  I have worked as a medical secretary, a lecturer, and a schoolteacher and examiner.  In 1984, I bought an old postcard with a message written in shorthand and since then I have collected and transcribed about 400 postcards.  I also transcribe old diaries and anything else written in Pitman Shorthand.

In 2022, The History Press published my book ‘Fifty Mysterious Postcards: Pitman Shorthand Messages from the Golden Age of the Postcard’.
