Educational Author

I write for a wide range of publishers and organisations, mainly but not exclusively for the educational market. My work encompasses market-leading textbooks and digital resources in English and Drama across the age and ability range, both for UK and international schools and colleges. I also write short fiction and nonfiction for children, for example for Harper Collins ‘Big Cat’ reading programme, with a specialist focus on environmental or scientific topics and issues. I’m currently working on new editions of English Language and English Literature IGCSE texts and resources, work for a video game company and new texts for the ‘Big Cat’ series.

Series Editor and Project Leader

As a former publisher and commissioning editor, I also design projects and help shape the strategy for a range of publishers and organisations, researching the educational market and proposing content and approaches. I have worked for almost 20 years to shape and lead ideas for York Notes, the revision guide publisher, helping transition them from print to a range of print and digital products.

Scriptwriter and dramatist

I have written a wide range of short and longer plays for the educational market, and also drama performed as part of the Directors Cut theatre network, with my work having been performed at Southwark Playhouse. Some of my scripts have been adapted into short films or monologues which can be seen on my You Tube channel: Mike Gould Scripts

Short stories and Poetry

My short stories and poems have won or been shortlisted for several awards, including Hastings Literature Festival and Chichester Writers competitions in recent years. Poetry has been anthologised in several collections over the years. I am currently working on an environmental collection with fellow writer John Pownall called ‘Spark and Ember’ to be published later this year.

YA Fiction

I am working on the final draft of a YA novel, ‘The Storm-chasers’ Daughter’, developed as part of New Writing South’s advanced professional programme for writers. Three short novels all with an environmental theme have been published by Delta Publishing, including the latest, ‘Caught in the Fire’ which concerns the wildfires which ravaged land around the Great Ocean Road in Australia.
