Writer and Betty Trask Awards judge Vaseem Khan invited us round for virtual tea and literary cake in week four of the SoA@Home Festival and on the day we announced the shortlists for the 2020 Society of Authors’ Awards.
The SoA’s Robyn Law asked him about judging book awards in lockdown, his creative routine, and what he’s currently working on.

Vaseem Khan is the author of the bestselling Baby Ganesh Detective Agency series featuring Indian detective Ashwin Chopra and his baby elephant sidekick. The first in the series, The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Choprawas a Times bestseller and a Waterstones Paperback of the Year, now translated into 12 languages. His books aim to take readers to the heart of modern India, exploring the realities of life in a country transformed by global change. Vaseem was born in London, but spent a decade working in India in his twenties. Since 2006 he has worked at University College London’s Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science.
