From 20-24 August the Society of Authors will be encouraging authors on Twitter to share the tactics they use to get away from the writing desk and relax, using the hashtag #insideoutside.

The SoA carries out an annual Summer Challenge to raise awareness of our wellbeing resources at www.societyofauthors.org/help – designed to signpost authors towards help with anything from their career and finances, to their health, mental health and general wellbeing.

It follows on from last year’s #SoAdoesYoga. Council member Neil Gaiman said at the time:

Writers don’t stretch enough, we don’t exercise enough, we don’t always look after our bodies as we should, while we work with our minds and our fingers. Anything that reminds us to take care of the bits that carry the mind is a very good thing indeed.

Authors who want to get involved only need to tweet a photograph, description or illustration of their writing desk, as well as a photograph, description or illustration of whatever it is they do to get away from it, tagged #insideoutside and @Soc_of_Authors. The SoA will be sharing them for everyone to see throughout the week.
