In our December awards round we’ve distributed more than £125,000 to authors towards their works in progress.

Completing a book can be a mammoth task and not many authors have the luxury of unrestricted time and resources for writing and research.

That’s why each June and December we distribute money to authors to help them complete their work. This week, we sent a share of more than £125,000 to 36 successful applicants.

It was on Twitter that we saw the first signs that the cheques had arrived.

As we received these and other messages from the first recipients, Awards Secretary Paula Johnson said:

“We’re proud that the Authors’ Foundation and K Blundell Trust help writers write. Congratulations to all the successful applicants and save the date – the next round of grants is open to writers now with an application deadline of April 30th 2017.”

About the awards

The Authors’ Foundation and K Blundell Trust award grants twice yearly to writers whose work of fiction or non-fiction is for a British publisher. Our grants assist with research costs or give authors valuable time to complete work. The K Blundell Trust gives grants of up to £6,000 to British authors under the age of 40 whose work aims to increase social awareness.

Our annual deadlines for Authors’ Foundation and K Blundell Trust awards are 30 April and 30 September.
