Martin was the SoA's Head of Communications from 2016 to 2024.

The SoA has written to Ed Vaizey along with other members of the Creators’ Rights Alliance to restate and amplify our demands for greater protection against onerous contracts for all creators.

The letter notes the ‘inequality of bargaining power between individual creators and those who exploit their work’ and how this can lead to creators abandoning their careers entirely through inability to ‘secure a genuine financial future for themselves’.

It goes on to lay out the main areas which need to be addressed, adopting C.R.E.A.T.O.R., a set of seven suggestions to rebalance the playing field, which was launched by our Chief Executive Nicola Solomon earlier this year.

Solomon is one of the co-signatories of the letter. We’re delighted to be carrying the fight for fairness forward in tandem with other creators and look forward to Ed Vaizey’s response.
