Martin was the SoA's Head of Communications from 2016 to 2024.

SoA members, in addition to holding panels, performances and workshops, pledged over £3,000 to Save the Children in aid of the refugee crisis in Syria. This was inspired by a fundraiser started by author and SoA member Patrick Ness, and the SoA efforts were led by John Dougherty, Chair of the Children’s Writers and Illustrators Group (CWIG).

Candy Gourlay has written an extensive report on the two-day conference which you can read here.

If you would like to donate to Ness’s fundraiser you can do so online here, tagging your donation as ‘SoA New Visions‘. A substantial number of SoA members have already donated.
