Giving yesterday's writings in other tongues new life in modern English.

My main activity is literary translation.  I translate classical texts, prose and poetry, in my chosen languages into lively, idiomatic and  modern English.  The languages in which I work, and from which I have had translations published, are primarily Russian and Latin, but I can equally translate classical Greek (including the Greek of the New Testament) and French and other romance languages.

Translating classical works, ancient and modern; preparing commentaries on works translated, giving talks and readings (including poetry readings) to adults; taking part in public discussions on translation.
Russian literature (especially Pushkin) and Russian history; classical Greek and Latin literature and history; renaissance Latin literature (especially Erasmus and Thomas More) and history; New Testament studies; opera libretti.
