Camilla Chester

Dog Walking Children's Author Extraordinaire

I'm well into my journey of becoming a hybrid Children's Author, having three MG self-published novels and recently signing with Laura West at David Higham Associates.

My first novel, Jarred Dreams, was shortlisted in the 2015 New Author National Literacy Trust Competition in conjunction with Bloomsbury and my second, EATS was shortlisted in the Children's Funny Fiction Award at the Winchester Conference 2017. My third book, Thirteenth Wish is my personal favourite. My fourth book, Darna's Sky (unpublished) was shortlisted in the Mslexia Children's Novel Award 2019 and I have a fifth book, Call Me Lion which I am currently working on.

I'm enjoying branching out into picture books, currently writing one about each of the dogs I walk, and I am also playing around with an idea for a teenage romance, but my comfort zone is middle grade (8-12s).

I write on commission for Serial Mash (an on-line school resource) and work freelance for the Discover Children's Stories Centre on their Catching Words Project. I also regularly visit schools and libraries, selling my books directly.

I'm keen to become traditionally published, but understand that, like everything, it will come at the right time (and if you work hard enough).
