I am a freelance science writer, mainly focused on life sciences and the environment.
My work has been published by New Scientist, BBC Future, Nature, Spectrum and the Telegraph, among others.
My first book, The Genesis Quest, will be published in August 2020. The UK publishers are Weidenfeld & Nicolson and the US publishers are the University of Chicago Press. The book recounts the century-long scientific effort to explain how life began on Earth over 3.5 billion years ago.
I also write reports for NGOs and other organisations, such as the Red Cross and the University of Exeter.
I have previously been acting editor of the BBC Earth website, and environment news editor and reporter for New Scientist.
