DESCRIPTION:Making enough money from book sales alone is hard. So how do most children’s authors and illustrators make a living? Our expert panel Tọlá Okogwu\, Joanna Nadin\, Rikin Parekh and Steve Cole will talk about income streams including making the most of both traditional publishing and self-publishing\, school visits\, funding opportunities\, teaching and more.  \nThis event is in conjunction with our Children’s Writers and Illustrators Group.  \n  \nOnline Industry Insider events – free for all + donation \nAll donations made go towards the Society of Authors’ Access Fund. Catch up with fellow members\, chat with the SoA staff team\, and hear from our special guest\, translator Ruth Martin. Ruth will share her insights on how to talk about translations to different audiences such as podcasts\, radio interviews or giving a talk in a bookshop. \nPlaces are limited and subject to availability. She has been translating fiction and non-fiction books since 2010\, by authors ranging from Joseph Roth and Hannah Arendt to Volker Weidermann and Shida Bazyar. Together with Charlotte Collins\, she won the 2020 Warwick Prize for Women in Translation\, for Nino Haratischwili’s epic novel The Eighth Life. Ruth has taught at the University of Kent and the Bristol Translates summer school. SUMMARY:North West London Group: From idea to published work
DESCRIPTION:Join the North West London Group for our next meet-up on Thursday 1 October from 19:00 at Kensal Rise Library\, Bathurst Gardens\, London NW10 5EU. \nAt this meeting\, we will be discussing the journey our ideas take to become published works. Please do come along and share your last book’s journey and what you have learned from that. \nBring your own drinks and snacks — wine glasses\, cups\, mugs\, and hot water will be available (bring your tea/coffee bags\, alcoholic drinks also allowed). The toilet is wheelchair accessible\, and there is free wi-fi. \nIf you know of local writers who may be interested in the group\, do invite them along. They can attend up to two meetings before being asked to join the SoA to continue attending. \nKensal Rise Library is within walking distance of Kensal Rise Station (Mildmay Line) and Kensal Green Station (Bakerloo + Lioness Line) and bus routes 6\, 18\, 28\, 52\, and 187.
