Surrey Group: Narrative Non-Fiction
11 February @ 12:00 - 14:00 GMT
Free
Join the Surrey Group on Tuesday 11 February from 12pm for their next in-person lunchtime meet-up to discuss narrative non-fiction with author Emma Simpson.
Emma is an award-winning debut author specialising in narrative non-fiction. Her first book, Breaking Waves, is being published by Icon Books in March 2025. Breaking Waves explores the beautiful and unique relationship of women with water around the world, demonstrating the primal powers of humanity and connection in an increasingly complex world. Emma interviewed women from Fiji to Finland and Africa to Canada for the book, and so will talk about the art of ‘polyphonic memoir’.
Emma will share how she gathered the stories, how the themes of the book developed during the process, and the dual challenges of representing someone else’s truths and weaving several stories into a coherent whole.
We’ll meet at The Seahorse, 52-54 The Street, Shalford, Guildford, GU4 8BU.
All writerly and bookish guests welcome!
